A SPORT FOR ALL AGES AND ABILITIES

WHAT IS BOULDERING?

FAQs

DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE?

No. Most first-time visitors have never climbed before. We’ll provide a full induction before you start.

DO I NEED TO BOOK?

No booking is required for recreational climbing. Simply arrive during opening hours and we’ll get you started.

WHAT DO I NEED TO WEAR?

Comfortable clothing you can move freely in. Climbing shoes can be hired at reception.

IS BOULDERING SAFE?

Like all adventure sports, bouldering carries some risk. We provide a safety briefing before climbing and use specialist safety matting throughout the centre.

HOW FIT DO I NEED TO BE?

Not very! Beginner climbs rely more on balance and technique than strength, making bouldering suitable for a wide range of abilities.

CAN CHILDREN CLIMB?

Yes. We welcome climbers of all ages.

Children aged 4–7 years use our dedicated children’s climbing area, while climbers aged 8+ can access the main gym under the appropriate active, hands-on supervision of a parent or guardian.

Children aged 1–4 years can take part in our FUNDAMENTALS OF MOVEMENT sessions, which are specifically designed to develop balance, coordination, confidence, and physical literacy through climbing-based play. Please note that children under 4 can only climb during these structured sessions.

HOW LONG DOES A SESSION LAST?

Your entry is a day pass, so you’re welcome to stay and climb for as long as you like during opening hours.

Most visitors spend 1–3 hours climbing, resting, and refuelling, but there’s no time limit on your visit.

CAN I COME ON MY OWN?

Absolutely. Many climbers visit alone and quickly become part of the community.

WHAT ARE CLIMBING GRADES?

Our grading system is simple. Every climb is given a grade from 1–8, with 1 being the easiest and 8 being the most difficult.

Unlike some climbing centres, any colour can be any grade, so don’t assume difficulty based on the hold colour alone. Simply look out for the numbered route tags at the start of each climb to find problems suitable for your ability level.

IS BOULDERING GOOD EXERCISE?

Yes. Bouldering improves strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, and problem-solving skills while providing a great full-body workout.

WHAT HAPPENS ON MY FIRST VISIT?

You’ll register at reception, complete a short induction, hire shoes if required, and then you’re ready to climb.

To speed up your first visit, we recommend completing your registration before attending. You can find a step-by-step guide HERE.

DO I NEED TO BE STRONG?

No. Good technique is often more important than strength, especially when you’re starting out.

WHAT IF I’M NERVOUS ABOUT TRYING IT?

That’s completely normal. Many of our climbers felt the same way before their first visit. Our team will guide you through everything, and if you’d like extra support, we recommend starting with our BOULDERING ESSENTIALS LEVEL 1 session – a relaxed, coach-led introduction designed specifically for complete beginners.

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN MY ENTRY?

Your day pass gives you unlimited climbing for the day. Shoe hire is available if needed.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU CHANGE THE CLIMBS?

We reset a different section of the gym every week, with the entire centre refreshed approximately every month. This means there’s always something new to try.
